But what exactly are these two things and how do they work?
What Is RSS?
RSS simply stands for "Really Simple Syndication". Essentially, in plain English, RSS works as a way to keep people notified about developments at a website without that person having to go to the website.
There are two parts of RSS, the RSS feed and a RSS reader (or RSS aggregator).
A RSS Feed is a data-feed from the website that keeps you updated on everything new that happens. So, for example, every time something goes offline or comes back online at Chinavasion there will be a message on the Stock Update RSS Feed informing anybody who subscribes to that feed that it has happened.
Finding a RSS feed is usually a very easy task that can be done in two ways. The first is by looking for buttons like at the top of the website or on the right hand side of the address bar.
RSS Button's location in Firefox
RSS Button's location in Internet Explorer
RSS Button's location on Chrome
The other way to find a RSS feed is to look for buttons at the bottom, or side of the page that invite' you to subscribe to the RSS feed.
The best way to have RSS feeds delivered to your email box is to use a service like feedmyinbox which you just use to enter your email address and the website/feed you want to keep track of (for example http://feeds.feedburner.com/chinavasion/Stock-Update) and then just hit enter. One thing to remember is the free version of Feed My Inbox can only be used for five subscriptions.
However, if you want your RSS feeds kept separate from your email there are also many RSS readers/aggregators out there that can also collect feeds. Please read Recommended RSS readers for a more detailed review of the different RSS feeds that are available.>br/>

What Is Twitter
Twitter is a website that allows its users to communicate with each other in short bursts of 140 characters or less. The website was first set up so that people could ask and answer the question 'what are you doing'.
Twitter quickly changed into a way to share links and keep updated on changes to websites and blogs and now people use it a lot like they would use a RSS feed.
Setting up and using a Twitter account is easy and it has and advantage over RSS feeds in that tweets can be delivered directly to your cell phone as a SMS making sure you never miss any important developments.
There are many guides to twitter online including this comprehensiveDummies Guide To Twitter and, once you do create a twitter account you will be able to keep up to date with everything that happens with listings on Chinavasion by following the Stock Update Twitter Feed.
